If you hunt or fish in New York State, your licenses will be a bit different this year. You won't have to do anything but the NY Department of Environmental Conservation will be making some changes.

The first time that I went to Montauk in October and saw a football field of striped bass, jumping out like frenzying piranhas, to eat bait fish, I was hooked. To the fisherman, that is called a 'blitz.' For over 3 decades, the 'blitzes' of striped bass have kept me coming back.

There are only two free fishing days left in 2023 and one of them coincides with National Hunting and Fishing Day. Saturday, September 23 is National Hunting and Fishing Day and New York State is allowing everyone to fish for free without a license.
