Four TD’s for Buffalo’s Gabe Davis? You Can Thank Bert Kreischer
See above for audio of Bert Kreischer on The Drive with Charlie & Dan.
Lost in the Buffalo Bills' overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, was the incredible performance of wide receiver Gabriel Davis.
In his second season in the NFL, Davis grew into one of Josh Allen's most reliable targets. He received more than two targets from Allen in just two of Buffalo's first eight weeks of play. In the back half of the season, however, he received at least three in every game.
It all culminated with his game against the Chiefs in the NFL's Divisional Round. He was targeted 10 times, caught eight of them, and racked up 201 yards and four touchdowns. Simply put, he did everything in his power to get the Bills back to the AFC Title Game.
So, who are Bills fans to thank for his performance? Believe it or not, the answer...is comedian Bert Kreischer.
In an appearance on The Drive with Charlie & Dan on 104.5 The Team, while promoting his upcoming show at the Palace Theater, Kreischer spoke about his love of sports, hats, and then, his connection to Gabriel Davis and the Buffalo Bills.
Before we get to the Bills' connection, here is a bit of background. Kreischer was recruited to play baseball at a number of different universities, before committing to Florida State University. It was there that he tried out, and was told that he would fill the role of bullpen catcher to begin his time in college baseball.
As he tells it, he walked to the bullpen, continuing to walk out of the back of the bullpen, left the stadium entirely, and began drinking and smoking.
From there, a party animal so famous that Rolling Stone Magazine did a profile on him back in 1997, was born. Fast forward to 2022, and Bert Kreischer is one of the more notable stand-up comedians currently touring the country. His most recent tour, The Berty Boy Tour, is coming to the Palace Theater in Downtown Albany on April 3rd, and he promised us, he will be repairing his relationship with the Capital Region this time around.
Kreischer and his friend and fellow comic, Tom Segura, are also the co-hosts of a podcast, Two Bears One Cave, of which I am a big fan. I heard him tell a story on the show a few weeks back, and had to ask him about it.
He mentioned his and Segura's relationship with Buffalo Bills' wide receiver, Gabriel Davis, who had emerged as a star in 2021-22. Davis is a big fan of both of their work, and an avid listener to the podcast. So much so, in fact, that during the playoffs, Davis wore cleats with "BERT" and "TOM" plastered on each heel.
You can see it in the picture here:
How cool is that? Even Bert, who has seen it all, was audibly amazed when he told us about it.
So, when you saw Gabe Davis breaking ankles against the Kansas City Chiefs, it was logical to thank Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, or even Davis himself for the masterful performance. That said, you can't forget to thank Bert Kreischer, and you could even go to his show at the Palace in April and thank him yourself, if you wanted.
