Why the New Shuttle to the Adirondack High Peaks?

If you hike or even live near the Adirondacks in the summer, you know that they are a huge tourist destination. With the spectacular summer weather, the NY DEC wants to make sure the influx of hikers can get to their destinations safely. They thought it necessary to add more shuttle services and a new route.

Where is the New Shuttle Route?

There is already a Route 73 shuttle and this new one will build off of that. It will run extra shuttles on select weekends in the summer and fall. The free shuttle runs from Frontier Town Gateway in North Hudson to popular Adirondack trailheads.

When and Where Does the Free Shuttle Take You?

Starting August 8th and on August 15th, visitors can catch the free shuttle at the Frontier Town Gateway as they embark on an overnight camping trip. These visitors will be able to thru-hike the Adirondacks without having to park a vehicle at either end of their journey. The drop-off point is at the Adirondack Loj in North Elba. This is the entry point to the High Peaks Wilderness. This is to allow visitors to hike and camp overnight or for up to four days. They will then make their way to the opposite side of the High Peaks Wilderness to the Tahawus Upper Works trailhead in Newcomb according to Iloveny.com

What Other Details Do Hikers Need to Know About the Free Shuttle?

Daily the shuttle will pick up visitors from the Tahawus Upper Works at 2 pm on the following Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before taking them back to the Frontier Town Gateway.
