How In The World Did The New York Mets Win Last Night?
The New York Mets pulled off one of the most improbable victories I have ever seen last night over the Philadelphia Phillies. In a game where I thought they had virtually no chance of winning, they defied the odds and wind up with an 8-7 victory. I just have this feeling that this Mets team is in store for a special season in 2022. Last night's awesome and dramatic win hasn't been the first time they have won in the 9th against the odds this year either. They rallied against the Cardinals a few weeks back in the 9th on the road too.
Taijuan Walker did not have his best stuff last night. The Mets were down 7-1 in the top of the 9th inning. Francisco Lindor snapped an 0 for 18 drought when he hit a two run homer to start the rally. Mark Canha then had an rbi infield single, JD Davis doubled to deep left, Nimmo singled, and then Marte doubled making it 8-7 Mets. Edwin Diaz then came in and shut down the stunned Phillies in the bottom of the 9th. It was the Mets' biggest 9th inning comeback in 25 years.
MJ and I had on ESPN Baseball Analyst Tim Kurkjian with us earlier this morning as we do every Friday. He was just as shocked as we were about the Mets incredible comeback last night. Below is our full interview with him.
Buck Showalter has completely changed this Mets team and franchise. They can win in many different ways and have several guys that help them get much needed wins. They are currently 19-9 without their ace Jacob deGrom which is very impressive.
