Former Buffalo Star Opens Up About Being in ‘Worst Mental Space’ Last Season
It's no secret that the situation between Stefon Diggs and the Buffalo Bills got pretty ugly last season.
Diggs, a 5th round draft selection by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, had played in Buffalo since 2020. He amassed 5,372 receiving yards during his four years with the Bills, over 700 yards more than he collected during his five seasons in Minnesota.
Yet, for the better part of two seasons, it appeared as though Diggs and the team were at odds with one another. Despite reaching the 1,000 receiving yard threshold in all four seasons with the Bills, and signing a lucrative $104 million contract extension in 2022, Stefon Diggs' relationship with Buffalo continued to deteriorate.
As the relationship deteriorated, so too did Diggs' mental health. As Diggs explained in a post published by GQ, he was in the worst mental space [he's] been in since [he's] been in the league last year with the Buffalo Bills.

He continued by saing this:

On being traded, Diggs said the following:
“We had some talks with Buffalo. We knew where things were going—I did, at least. The outside world had so much speculation. I knew, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year to the offseason, exactly what was going on. Not too much confusion on my end.” - Diggs via GQ
In the end, Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans along with a 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) and a 2025 fifth-round pick, with a second-round selection in 2025 coming back to Buffalo in the deal.
Diggs was recently named one of Houston's captains for the 2024 season, and appears to be thriving in his new home. Clearly, however, he still has some unresolved feelings about the end of his time in Buffalo.
