Iconic Sportscaster Saves Pal’s Life At Upstate New York Eatery
Sportscasting Hall of Famer, Bob Costas loves his Syracuse University and frequents the area when his schedule allows. This particular trip is one that he and a friend won't soon forget.
Last month, while in town with a friend, the 71-year old sports analyst jumped into action, when he saw that is friend was struggling for his life.
According to Page Six, Costas performed the Heimlich Maneuver when he saw his friend choking across the table from him. Costas was quoted on the “The Show With Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman” podcast saying his friend turned “crimson.” The famed sportscaster then “jumped up” to assist his friend, performing the Heimlich.
Costas took a modest approach to the entire situation. He told Sherman and Heyman, “Luckily enough it worked out. I don’t know if I saved his life, but I saved him considerable discomfort, that’s for sure.” A representative for Costas responded to Page Six by saying, “Bob doesn’t think this was that big of a deal.He really feels he did what just about anyone else would do in a similar situation.” I'm sure his friend thinks it's a pretty big deal.
Bob Costas hasn't been on network television since his contract was bought out by NBC in 2019. Costas remains doing appearances on MLB Network. However, after taking center stage at the Olympics, the World Series, the Super Bowl, the NBA Finals, Golf and every other major sporting event, his greatest accomplishment may have just happened in Syracuse. Few of us ever get to save a life.
