Every day I travel down King's Road in Schenectady on my way to work. As I pass through the Albany Pine Bush, I noticed the historical markers proclaiming that George Washington traveled on this road in 1786. That's 237 years ago! This has to be the oldest road in New York if not the Nation! Well, it's not.

When it comes to the oldest street in the Country, we might get an argument from Florida and Pennsylvania but the oldest street in the United States of America IS in New York State. Or is it?

Established in 1703, Elfreth's' Alley in Philadelphia is recognized as the oldest residential street in America. Aviles Street in Saint Augustine, Florida also claims to be the oldest street in America but aside from some pieces of pottery from the 1600's they don't appear able to pinpoint a date.

According to Historic Towns of America and supported by the New England Archivists, the oldest street in the Nation is Huguenot Street in New Paltz, New York. Established in 1678, this street has been the oldest, continuously inhabited street in the Country. Take that Philly!
