
Heartbreak as This Missing Upstate New York Beaver’s Journey Comes to Tragic End
We have sad news to report regarding a beaver that had been reported missing from the Utica Zoo, 1 Utica Zoo Way in Utica, New York. 'Cauliflower', a male beaver that managed to get out of his enclosure has been found dead after being hit by a car.
It is with deep sadness that we share the heartbreaking news: Cauliflower, our male American Beaver who escaped his exhibit earlier in April, was found deceased this past weekend. - Utica Zoo

According to a post on the Utica Zoo Facebook page, Cauliflower was found by a good Samaritan and brought back to the zoo deceased. Officials were able to confirm his identity through a microchip scan.
Cauliflower was reported missing Wednesday April 16th. Zoo keepers stated that Cauliflower could not be found in his exhibit prompting staff to issue a Code Blue response. This is protocol when non-dangerous animals escape.
Eyewitnesses indicate spotting Cauliflower near the Rotary Pavilion inside the zoo. As staff members continue their search humane live-traps and trail cameras are being used to help get this busy beaver back to safety.
The Utica Zoo issues this plea, Please be on the lookout. This is typically a time when beavers, and other species, will disperse to establish their own territory. Drive carefully near water, wetlands, and culverts. Give wildlife space and grace. These young beavers are doing the best they can as their habitats are dwindling.
