This Local New York Man Welded Together an 8.5 Ft Tall Bike!
22 year old Erik Herrero resides in Clifton Park, and has created something astounding for his final project this year at the Schenectady Modern Welding School-- an 8.5 foot tall bicycle (Cassie Hudson, news10.com)!
I just have this passion to like, do something different, and be that guy that everyone's like 'Whoa, how does he come up with these things?' -Erik Herrero (Cassie Hudson, news10.com)
When you see his design, I'm sure you'll say exactly that...
It took me long enough to figure out how to ride a regular bike, I can't imagine trying to ride one this tall! You'd be almost the same height as an RV!
According to news10.com, Hot Wheels toys garnered Herrero's appreciation from a young age, leading him to love anything with wheels. This sparked his aspiration to follow in both of his grandfathers' footsteps and become a welder.
After realizing how expensive creating the 8.5 foot tall bike would be, a local bike tech helped him get materials for free.
He sent me a schematic of this monster clown bike and I didn't need much convincing, I'm in. So we took him to the scrap pile (the boneyard) and loaded his car up, and the rest was history. -Kevin, Captain Cog Cyclery (Cassie Hudson, news10.com)
Herrero told News10 that when he rides down the street everyone comes out of their houses to see, and the kids especially get a kick out of seeing him drive by.
So, how do you even get onto the bike? According to news10.com, by getting a running start, climbing up, and balancing for dear life.
Already moving onto his next design, Herrero has plans to create a tandem tricycle for him and his girlfriend to ride on their way to their weekly Stewart's ice cream runs (Cassie Hudson, news10.com).
Herrero has gained quite the following, with views in the millions, by posting videos of him riding the impressive contraption on TikTok. You can visit his page here.
