Clifton Park Hair and Body Essentials, a longtime salon serving the community for nearly 50 years, abruptly closed last week, leaving employees and customers stunned and searching for answers.

Staffers Surprised

Former employees say they were given little notice. Esthetician Krysta Crawford, who worked at the salon for more than three years, told News 10 ABC that she received a call on December 29 informing her that December 30 would be the final day of business.

“I loved it there. It was home,” Crawford said. “It’s not just a job, it’s a relationship.”

Crawford told the news station that staff were aware the business had struggled since new ownership took over last year, but nothing suggested an immediate closure. In fact, she claims that employees were encouraged to sell gift cards ahead of the holidays.

Clientel Shocked

That made the closure especially painful for customers like Clifton Park resident Phyllis Mullaney, who received an $80 gift card for Christmas.

“I called to make an appointment and got a recording saying they were closed,” Mullaney said. “It was disappointing.”

It remains unclear what will happen to unused gift cards, but a neighboring business is stepping in to help.

Surrounding Salon Picks Up the Slack

Sincere Salon and Lounge is offering to honor 50% of the outstanding gift card value, plus 25% off services for new clients at its Clifton Park and Latham locations.

Despite the sudden ending, Crawford says her focus remains on her clients.

“Once one door closes, another one opens,” she said. “This community is close, and I’ll always help clients find where their favorite stylist landed.”

The salon’s website and social media pages have since been taken down.
