Pope's Italian Announces Last Day

It's always tough to see a longtime local business close, especially one that's been part of the Saratoga community for four decades.

Pope’s Italian Restaurant in Saratoga Springs has announced that it will permanently close, with its final day scheduled for Saturday, September 12th.

The family shared the bittersweet news on Facebook, reflecting on the humble beginnings of a restaurant that would ultimately become a Saratoga staple.

"Took a Risk"

“40 years ago, a man and his wife took a risk on creating a business to support his family,” the owners wrote, adding that Pope’s went on an incredible journey of “building a community & becoming a staple in the Saratoga area.”

Longtime locals may remember Pope’s from its early days on Broadway, before the restaurant moved to its current location on Washington Street.

According to the family, the decision to close wasn't made lightly.

Focus is on the Family

“We’re ready to take a step back and focus on family—the thing that started this all,” they wrote.

The owners thanked the employees, vendors, bands, tourists, bloggers and, most importantly, the community that supported Pope’s throughout its 40-year run.

“Our family will never forget you and the memories we have made over the years,” they added.

Still Time to Visit

Thankfully, there's still time for one more visit.

Pope’s will remain open through September 12th, and the family is encouraging longtime customers to come in, grab one last slice, and share their memories.

After 40 years of pizza in Saratoga, that's a whole lot of memories.
