In the blink of an eye, the hill on which I was willing to die with the New York Giants is starting to get pretty crowded.

Daniel Jones is playing at a strong level, and the league is starting to take notice.

The Giants' QB was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office earlier today. Jones threw for 402 yards in the Giants' Week 4 win over the New Orleans Saints, tossing two touchdowns to John Ross and Saquon Barkley, and scrambling for 27 yards on four carries.

While Jones picked up the weekly award for his performance in Week 4, his performance in all of 2021 is opening a lot of eyes around football, and proving my "Danny Dimes" moniker true every step of the way.

Let's dive into the numbers, shall we?

  • Passing Yards: 1,184 (7th)
  • Passing TDs: 4 (T-24)
  • QBR: 59.8 (12th)
  • Passer Rating: 98.3 (15th)

Now, these numbers are not great, but, they're promising when you look at the comparables.

Jones' passing yards are tops for any quarterbacks in the NFC East, ahead of Jalen Hurts and Dak Prescott, who rank 9th and 13th. His QBR also leads the division, with Washington's Taylor Heinicke one spot behind him. While his passer rating trails his NFC East counterparts, he still leads such top QBs as Derek Carr and Josh Allen.

Don't forget about the rushing yards, too:

Look, I'm not here to say that Jones has entered his name into the G.O.A.T. conversation. That would be short-sighted, and we need to wait at least a year for that conversation to begin.

That said, the progress that Jones seems to be making is something that needs to be considered. His interception numbers are down considerably from years past, and his throws are on target much more often. In a make-or-break year for Jones and general manager Dave Gettleman, Jones has done his part to this point in the season.
