Pedal to the Medal: Olympic Cyclist from Duanesburg Wins Bronze!

!SPOILER ALERT!  Sorry (not sorry) if the headline ruined the surprise, but Olympic cyclist Emma White from Duanesburg won a medal on Tuesday morning.

It's an incredible accomplishment and one that should be celebrated considering just how difficult it is to make the Olympic Games, let alone finish faster than all but two cycling teams in the world.

According to the article written on Tuesday morning by the Times Union, the American team comprised of Duanesburg native Emma White, Chloe Dygert, Megan Jastrab, and Jennifer Valente beat the Canadian cyclists by over two full seconds. The Americans posted a time of 4 minutes, 8.040 seconds in the 4,000-meter race, while Canada's time was  4:10.552.

After White graduated from Duanesburg High School, she stayed locally here in the Capital Region, attending Union College from 2015- 2019.

The 23-year-old White honed in and perfected her skills while she was at college in Schenectady, but her talents were discovered when she was still in grade school.

According to TeamUSA.org, White  "started racing at 9 years old with her brother Curtis White and quickly developed a reputation in the North East as a top road and cyclocross racer. Her results garnered her place on the United States National team as well as the Cyclocrossworld. com-Cannondale squad to race cyclocross."

By the time she was a junior in high school, "she developed into one of the best riders in the world, capping a brilliant junior career with dual silver medals at the 2015 UCI World Championships."
