Police in Albany Warn of Wandering Bear Near Washington Park
Police in Albany sent out a notice for a rather unusual sighting in Albany County on Tuesday morning.
They say a black bear was spotted wandering near Washinton Park and they told residents in the area to be on the lookout for it.
There were a lot of people in Albany's Washington Park over the Memorial Day weekend and cleanup crews were out and about in full force this morning picking up the litter and cleaning trash bins overrun from BBQs, picnics, parties, and gatherings.
While hungry critters like squirrels, chipmunks, and birds are having a field day, some may have to make way for a larger beast, seldom seen in Albany - a black bear that Albany police say was seen in the area of State Street and Sprague Place.
Please be advised that a black bear was observed this morning wandering in the area of Washington Park. The bear was last seen in the area of State Street and Sprague Place around 5:30 a.m. Residents should use caution if walking in that area and should keep dogs on a leash.

The DEC has tips to reduce human/bear conflicts here and Albany Police are asking anyone who observes the bear call 518-438-4000.
While it's not terribly uncommon for these animals to roam through residential neighborhoods searching for some food or a comfortable place to rest on their way back to the forest, Albany sightings are few and far between.
