A landmark property on Central Ave in Albany was recently purchased by a Saugerties businessman for nearly $1M dollars recently, opening up speculation as to what could possibly become of the old Grandma's Pies.

Back on July 8th, 2018, it was announced that Grandma's Pies was closing its doors for good.

"After 42 years of home cooked goodness, the sad news came down today that Grandma is hanging up her apron and the long time Albany landmark is about a week away from closing it's doors for good. The owners simply couldn't afford the rent anymore."  Brian Townsquare Media

When he took over the property back in 2018,  Alex Morales (who also owns a Mexican restaurant close by) may have had big plans for Grandma's Pies, a one-time legendary restaurant notorious for their homecooked meals and outrageously delicious pies.

Much of that changed when the pandemic hit a few years ago, and it became fiscally unreasonable to re-launch the restaurant - so Grandma sat - alone.  Waiting for a buyer.

Grandma's is sold for $950K to a businessman from Saugerties

According to Spotlight News, in early January,  the buildings where Grandma sits were sold to a man named Harbalwant Singh, of HSB Ventures based in Saugerties.

Singh, according to the report owns many beer and liquor stores downstate, but it's unclear what he will do with the property here in the Capital Region.  It's likely that the property will be something of the sort, but searches to find out more about the stores he currently owns came up pretty empty.
