Capital Region Chick-fil-A Employees Could Have 3 Day Work Weeks

Upstate New York and the Capital Region are still facing a post-COVID hiring crunch. As jobs go unfilled, some businesses consider moving to a four-day, 40-hour work week to entice applicants. Several studies have shown the majority of US workers would prefer a four-day week.

But what about a three-day work week? Believe it or not, that could come to the Capital Region with our much-anticipated Chick-fil-As. After years of deferred dreams, Clifton Park and Rensselaer County will finally get the area’s first non-airport Chick-fil-As in 2023. More are rumored in Latham and beyond. Not only will they bring famous chicken, but they might have an incredible offer for workers.

As reported by USA Today, a Chick-fil-A operator in Kendall, Florida instituted a three-day work week. Since Chick-fil-As are only open six days a week, the three-day weeks are evenly split between two teams. Each team works 13-14 hours per day for half the week, then gets four consecutive days off.

The newer, shorter work week started in February. Since then, that Chick-fil-A has had an incredible 100% management retention rate and a staggering amount of job applicants at all levels. A standard service-level job opening at the Kendall Chick-fil-A averages around 400 applicants.

Every Weekend Is A Holiday Weekend

While not standard practice at Chick-fil-A, the company has lots of flexibility with what they let operators do. The Kendall experiment is obviously working, so it’s not out of the question that more CFA locations could try it, including the Capital Region’s.
