IRS Agent From Albany Arrested for Allegedly Drug Trafficking
A local man has demonstrated that you can’t always judge a person by what you see on the surface.
On the surface, 41-year old Michael Shelli appears to be an upstanding citizen. For years he was a football coach with The Colonie Junior Bison Football league. He was a coach and vice president with The North Colonie Capital Lacrosse team, as well as an assistant coach with a local high school lacrosse team. In addition to all of his coaching experience, he had a very respectable job for 13 years as an IRS supervisory revenue agent.
What doesn’t fit into Mr. Shelli’s public persona is the fact that he is also an accused drug dealer. The coach and IRS agent was arrested today at his Albany home on drug charges. Federal authorities say that Mr. Shelli was allegedly dealing cocaine from his home.
According to News Channel 13, Federal authorities say that they’ve been investigating a Saddle Brook, NJ home since March for drug activity that involved Mr. Shelli. Authorities believe that Mr. Shelli had cocaine picked up by a courier in New Jersey and delivered to his Albany residence. Mr. Shelli would then repackage the drugs for sale in the Capital Region.
Mr. Shelli appeared before a US magistrate in a video conference hearing. He was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond. If he is convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison and a fine of $1 million.
Apparently, Mr. Shelli enjoyed working with young people because he dedicated a big part of his life toward coaching children. I really hope that none of the children were harmed by his other extracurricular activities.
