Schenectady Sex Offender Nabbed In Fed’s Undercover Sting
A convicted sex offender was arrested on Wednesday for trying to entice or coerce a child.
According to the U. S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York, 45-year-old Matthew Peters has been arrested. According to authorities, the Schenectady resident initiated and exchanged sexually explicit text messages with an undercover officer between October 2 and October 7.
The undercover police officer used social media to pretend to be a 14-year old male named Brandon. Peters initiated contact with the undercover officer and repeatedly asked for live pictures and nude images. Peters made these requests after he was informed that Brandon was only 14-years old.
Mr. Peters repeatedly asked the undercover agent to meet in person. He discussed plans for oral and anal sex with “Brandon”. Peters made plans to meet with “Brandon“ in Menands in person. When he arrived at the arranged meeting place expecting to meet Brandon, he was confronted with undercover officers. He was arrested and taken into custody.
This is not Mr. Peters’ first involvement with inappropriate behavior with children, he is already a convicted sex offender. If he is convicted of this offense, he could be sentenced to life in prison and a fine of $250,000.
This is another example of why parents have to be diligent in the supervision of their children while on the Internet. There are predators lurking behind computer screens just waiting for an innocent child to become their next victim.
Police are asking for information. If you have any information about Matthew Peters, contact the FBI Albany Field Office at (518) 465-7551.
